I don’t have time to do this but I’m making it/taking it because I can and I choose to do so.
It’s not about the chicken or chikin. It’s not about being cool with someone being gay or feeling a great deal of distress over someone’s sexual orientation. It’s not about choosing to be in a traditional marriage or choosing to be single. It’s not about raising your children with their other DNA donor, raising them by yourself, or raising them with a step-whatever. All of the above are personal choices.
It’s about cows selling chicken.
And when cows or anybody else are in the business of selling something, what you say becomes who you are or what the company is. It is that simple. Dan Cathy is free to say what he chooses regarding the gay community, and his company is free to donate as much money to anti-gay organizations as management sees fit: it’s their money. Conversely, however, what Dan Cathy says is what his company is in the eyes of his chikin-eating public. The fact that his comments caused and are causing a public relations firestorm should come as no surprise. That is the way it rolls. That is what freedom of speech is all about. You say what you want and you reap what you sow. That is the rule of thumb in business, politics, and life here in America…and I love it.
It’s all about the cows–not the chikin.
